National Parks | Birdwatching | Rainforest The
main purpose of the National Reserves is the conservation of the
biological diversity and makes a good use of the aquatic and ground wild
flora and fauna. The National Reserve of Salinas y Aguada Blanca The National Reserve of Salinas and Aguada Blanca is located in the departments of Arequipa, Caylloma and General Sánchez Cerro. It has a surface of 366,936 hectares. In this reserve there
are lakes, volcanoes and high mountains such as Misti (5821 m), Chachani
(5075 m) and Pichupichu (5440 m). The reserve also counts on typical
species such as the Yareta (Azorella sp.) the queñual (Polylepis sp.)
and the keapo (Parastrephia lepidophyla), used by the population as
fuel. Inside this reservation is located Pampa Cañahuas, almost behind
the Chachani Volcano, where the tarucas (Hippocamelus Antisiencis)
are protected (tarucas are deers of a small size that are in a
vulnerable situation). There are also great quantity of vicuñas in wild
life.
Their wool is the finest textile fiber in the world, very well appreciated in the international market. It is represented in the National Shield of Peru like the symbol of the wealth of the animal kingdom. National Parks | Birdwatching | Rainforest |
